Chiaki Yamada Solo Exhibition: Sparkling
■ Schedule
April 12th (Sat) - 20th (Sun), 2025
11:00-18:00 (until 15:00 on the last day)
Yamada Chiaki creates sculptures, mainly using lacquer, with living creatures as her motif, with the hope of expressing the heat of her own emotions through her work.
Even if a work is born out of negative emotions, I believe that the passion can bring warmth to someone's heart, and I pursue forms that have the softness and warmth of living things, hoping for the moment when my work becomes a source of comfort.
In lacquer sculptures, the gloss of lacquer is used for the eyes, and a technique called color rust is used for the skin and fur, expressing a matte, soft texture that makes use of the unique shading of the colors.
The prototype was created using a clay modeling technique, the base was made of water-based acrylic resin (jesmonite), and the surface was finished with lacquer, giving it a matte texture called iro-rust. The use of lacquer creates a unique range of color shading, expressing softness and warmth.
This exhibition will feature a collection of sculptures that the artist creates daily, expressing the anxiety, lust, unspoken feelings, and emotional sludge that has built up in his heart, in the hope that one day these will sparkle and be reborn.
Believing that the heat of emotion can bring warmth to someone's heart, I pursue forms that evoke the softness and warmth of living things, hoping for the moment when my works become a source of comfort.
